An energetic day for the Footlight Performers, with workshops for all in jazz and lindy hop. Two professional choreographers auditioned the students during these workshops to take part in an additional 2 dances which were part of the evening performance. Our dancers produced some spectacular routines and were a credit to Footlights. Eight of the Footlight Performer's successfully auditioned to perform in Wimborne Musical Theatre's production of 42nd Street at the Tivoli. They were the main showgirls and they were involved in intensive rehearsals to ensure that the advanced tap routines were spectacular. The performers were Katie Cunningham, Hannah Downey, Sarah Fowell, Adele Jordan, Laura Lambert-Hutchinson, Gaby Main, Katie Quick and Emma Wright. There is a lovely review on the Wimborne Musical Theatre website. Footlight's were proud to perform for the 4th consecutive year in this wonderful extravaganza of dance. 8 local dance schools took part. It was an exciting day where the dancers rehearsed for the evening performance and they also had the opportunity to attend workshops run by world class choreographers. These choreographers auditioned from these workshops for 2 dances which were part of the evening performance. A fabulous opportunity for our Footlight Performers. Rika Tharme successfully auditioned and performed in the Portsmouth production, rehearsals were at the end of the summer holidays and during the autumn term. We are delighted that Stephen Downey, Samantha Hacklett, Sarah Webb and Laura Webb successfully auditioned before Easter for the English Youth Ballet’s production of Sleeping Beauty. This involved an intensive rehearsal period leading to the final performances at the Octagon Theatre in Yeovil on 8th & 9th June 2007. The parents and relatives or our dancers are raising money for the BBC Children in Need appeal by taking our Primary/Grade 1 ballet exams. Over 50 of us (yes there are Dads too) have been practising for the last 6 weeks and will be taking our exams on the 5th November. We have found muscles we forgot existed, had cramp in our tummies and feet (you should try wearing ballet shoes). The Principal (Nina Thompson) will be our examiner. Will she keep her composure whilst we try dancing to perfection? The sight of those of us with more rounded figures dressed in tutu's may be the final straw! The BBC are coming to film us at the examinations, we don't know when they are coming so some are going to have a record for posterity! This fantastic fundraising idea was the inspiration of Leanne Dade - Manager Colehill Branch. Please help us reach our fundraising target by sponsoring us today! A brilliant Autumn has created a fantastic backdrop for the Footlight Fairies this year.
Preparations started weeks in advance designing and collecting materials. On the day work began early in the morning, with Dads fixing the staging, Mums and Teachers adding the decorative touches. It took a full 4 hours of hard work on the morning before the float was ready to travel to the market in Wimborne. A convoy of cars delivered the chaperones and dancers to the assembly area before they could climb aboard their fairyland. Great fun was had by all at the Wimborne Christmas parade waving, smiling and handing out fairy wishes to the watching crowds. It was a beautiful afternoon and will be a treasured memory for all who took part.
Our dancers were seen flitting amongst the trees and guests at the "The Enchanted Gardens" held at Kingston Lacy over the October half-term. They had a fabulous time and made many magic memories for young in age and heart. Many a fairy wish went home as a treasure to be shared with others in years to come. Only one evening was wet, but the dancers still performed and the guests still came to see them.
Sophie Wright, Lauren Grice and Laura Lambert-Hutchinson
all successfully auditioned for this show. At the audition, in front
of Earl Carpenter (the current Phantom in London), they had to perform
two contrasting songs of their choice with piano (solo) and learn a
set piece of choreography.
Auditions were held at the Pavilion in Bournemouth in December 2004, there were over a 200 dancers auditioned and 10 of our dancers were successful. The were put through a strenuous rehearsal schedule including a full week of rehearsals during the February half-term. There were 3 performances at the Pavilion in March. A thrilling opportunity to work with a professional ballet company.
